June 9, 2009 1:04 PM

We made it to Oakview at about 9:30 last night. She is now in the retirement community that she and I were planning to move into, she just made it there a little before I did and a little before we expected. Her bed is next to the windows so the sun is shining down on her during the day. For those of us who know her the sunshine was one of her favorite parts of life.

Paula rested comfortably through the night. Met with the medical staff this morning and their belief is that based on what they see as her current physical condition we will only have her with us for a few more days, at the most. While this news is very painful for all of us who love her it is really the best for her.

Thank you again for all your thoughts and support. Please keep them coming. They are helpful to us all.

Jeff

  1. I've only met Paula a few times when she came to Wyandotte, Michigan to compete at the North American Adult Invitational as I know it (has a different name now) because I'm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Paula is one who encouraged me to keep competing even though I wasn't all that great at it.

Just to let you know, I've posted the news about Paula at Figure Skaters For Christ Facebook Group so that members can pray for Paula, her family and friends.

May God's Holy Spirit hug you all from the inside out. Jesus is preparing a home for Paula in Heaven and it probably has a skating rink that never needs to be Zambonied.

  2. Jeff, I wish there was something I could say to ease your sorrow. I will always be grateful to have known Paula through our mutual love of Keeshonds. She has touched many lives -- those of the two-legged and four-legged kind.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful mate with us.

  3. Jeff,

I had no idea your wife was so ill. I am so sorry for her and for you and your family. You've told me a bit about her, with love and pride in your voice, and she sounded like a strong and vibrant woman. While you've been able to share 36 good years and will treasure those memories, I can't imagine what you're going through right now with the suddenness of the onset and prognosis. Your swimming friends, along with your many other friends, are here to support you. Please call upon us; that's what friends are for.

  4. Jeff,

Nothing ever prepares us for events like you and Paula have faced over these last few weeks. Know that our thoughts are with you during these difficult days.

Patty and I have been touched over the years we have worked with you how open you are about your pride in Paula and your love for her.

She must feel truly loved and we are sure she knows that you are there with her.

  5. Jeff,
I am devastated by Paula's situation and knowing what you both have been going through during what seems like a time warp. You both are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. We have always thought of you and Paula as part of our family. . .please know that we are here for you and want to be of help in any way, big or small, that we can. Janis and Duane

  6. Dear Jeff,
One of the greatest joys is to love and share life with another. That it comes to an end is a rite of passage that we expect to happen someday a long time from now, when we’re old and grey, not this week or this month or this year.

I remember at the mid-year meeting we sat at the end of the table at dinner one night and you talked about Paula with such love. She is blessed to have you and must feel so very loved.

Thank you for sharing her journey with us.
