First let me thank you all for the kind words that you have posted as well as the emails. They are appreciated. It is nice to know Paula touched so many lives.

We are still at UCLA most likely until Monday when we hope to move Paula to a continuing care facility close to home, her garden and her dogs. Today she had several seizures so the doctors have increased the anti seizure medications which appear to have helped. Late this afternoon a feeding tube was inserted without any complications.

If you wish to visit (it is OK to do so) she is in the Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA in the Neuroscience/Stroke Unit room 6621. She has a private nurse with her 24/7 so there is always someone there.

Thank you all again for your support.

  2. Dear Jeff,
I have just received email from Maggie and am still in shock. I do not think I have met Paula in person. But I have seen her compete and have read about her in the Skating magazine before. I wanted to tell you that she inspired more people than she could ever imagine.
She reminded me that the life is precious, I have to treasure every moment I have.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
I hope that the wonderful memories soothe you during this difficult time.
    Love,
    Mayumi

  4. Jeff, I am so sorry about Paula. Like others have said, I, too, am in shock. I will always remember her as a vibrant woman and graceful skater. She has been an inspiration to everyone in adult skating, and we owe her a debt of gratitude.

Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated about her condition. My thoughts are with you and the rest of your family.

  5. Hi Jeff,
I first saw Paula skate in the first adult nationals in Wilmington Delaware. I was impressed with her skating and seeing her made me want to improve my skating and compete. I would see her at many competitions throughout the next 20 or so years and always remember the first time I saw her. I think I speak for many when I say that first, I am so so sorry for the sudden turn events, second, she will be sorely missed by so many and third, there's a big hole and great sadness in the adult skating world. She will go to a better place and be landing triple axels and watching over all of her loved ones and friends. I'm sending my prayers and support to you and your family.

  6. Jeff,
We do not know each other, but I have known of Paula through adult skating. She is such a leader in our sport and this is an unthinkable tragedy and I know you are in such pain. I will pray for peace and comfort for you and your family.

  7. Hello Jeff,
I've never met you, and don't really know Paula that well. But I was so sorry to hear about Paula's illness. I've let the LAFSC board know about this, and the word is being spread to the club members.

I've always loved watching Paula skate, and always hoped that I would (someday) be as graceful myself on the ice.

    Vicki
